 Return to Workshop Calender

BraveHearted Living Workshop for Professional Growth

In our BraveHearted LivingTM workshops, we take great care to create an environment of mutual support and safety. This allows each of us to feel into our hearts, and take the risk to keep them open — or reopen them — so we can tap into the possibilities of joy, abundance and love, which in turn allows us to remain hopeful. We can learn to reconnect with what we are truly longing for, lean into our heart’s desire and move forward.

In this residential retreat we’ll use creative arts therapies such as psychodrama, sociometry, art making and music to explore your inner and outer worlds, help you clear away what is no longer working, so you can (re)build your sense of self-worth and self-compassion, allowing you to em- brace all of who you are, and all of who you can be. We can help you shine a light on your possibilities, breathe new life into your spirit and help you step into your BraveHearted self.

Containment: The Key to Safety with Action Methods

Our brains are hardwired to Fight, Flight or Freeze from danger. Unfortu- nately, long after many traumatic experiences happened, the survivor contin- ues to use those survival defenses, forming rigid patterns that shut down or overwhelm the system with unexpressed emotion. This is especially true of grief. For many survivors, it would have been dangerous to cry out while ne- glect, violence or abuse was happening, while many associate grief with being a victim. So, deep pain and grief from abuse is often hidden or repressed for years, becoming the proverbial elephant-in-the-room.

However, tsm has a special Prescriptive Role, the Containing Double (cd), that helps clients work through dissociation and other defenses to access these intense feelings of grief and mourningsafely and without retraumatization.

The cd was one of the rst roles to be developed by tsm. Its efficacy has been researched and it is used throughout the world, across cultures and languages. In this workshop, participants will learn and practice the Containing Double in triads, participate in full TSM Psychodramas, and learn TSMs Action Safety Structures that enhance group cohesion and provide the overarching container for deep work.

Retrieving the Treasure – Returning to Serve, Heal, and Transform the Wasteland

Our 2018 series, which has used myth and the Journey of the Heroine/Hero as a model for healing and transforming ourselves and our world, culminates in this final three-day workshop, which focuses on the Return of the Heroine/Hero.

During phase three, we again draw upon action methods and expressive arts, including the Sociometric Wheel, to help us explore:
• How the Heroine/Hero, who heard the Call and travelled the Journey to retrieve the Treasure, must Return home with those transformational gifts;
• How Global Citizens and Social Artists can nurture community, age consciously, share resources, and actively support the empowerment of all beings;
• The power of joining with kindred spirits in a compassionate community of support, inspiration, encouragement, and celebration; and
• A ‘winter’ of self-care needed to ponder and integrate transformational experience.

Participants will have the opportunity to:
• Identify and reflect upon the gifts they’ve received on the Journey – their Treasure;
• Interact compassionately with others in understanding how they might individually and collectively explore what it means to be Global Citizens and Social Artists;
• Access roles that can deepen their understanding of and experience with action methods and their use; and
• Reflect on how their learning might be incorporated personally and/or applied professionally after the workshop.

Though helpful, it is not necessary to have attended the previous two events. Indeed, as multifaceted beings, in one area of our life, we may be hearing a Call; in another, we may be experiencing the Journey; and in a further area, may be striving to integrate and apply new learning – the Return. The focus of this workshop is on the Return, but the overall heroine/hero’s journey remains the context and will be incorporated into the workshop.

Time: 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. each day
ABE Hours: 18
